Mexico

MEXICO, the country of one of the most crowded cities, tortilla wraps, sombreros and ancient cultures of the Aztecs and Mayans and is one of the most popular travel destinations for tourists all around the world. Whether you’re looking for brilliantly white beaches, ancient temples or immense metropolises, Mexico is the place to be. The country is divided in a temperate and tropical zone, but during summer you don’t have to worry about being cold anywhere in the country, except for some high mountains.

When visiting the north American country, there are a few places you cannot miss out on visiting. Many airlines such as US Airways, KLM, British Airways, Lufthansa and Qantas fly to Mexico City. In Mexico City, there are already many touristic attractions to visit such as the Mexican National Palace, Plaza Mexico but also the ancient pyramids of the Sun and the Moon only 40 kilometres (25 miles) away. These pyramids were built by the Mesoamericans almost 2000 years ago. The Aztec and Mayan cultures are maybe the most famous ancient cultures of the America’s. Many of its legacy is visible around the world. In fact, Mexico City is built right on top of the ancient Aztec city of Tenochtitlan. The Mayan culture is probably most famous for its calendar which ends December 2012, supposedly predicting the end of the world. The Mayan culture too, is still highly visible across Mexico. The ruins of Palenque are definitely worth visiting.

When traveling in Mexico, always make sure you’re safe. At this moment Mexico is in war with huge drug cartels in the country. The war took the lives of many thousands of people, many guilty, but also quite some innocent bystanders. Most of the battles are focused to the north of the country, near the US border, but you should be careful everywhere. The best thing to do is always looking after your belongings, and not showing them too much. You don’t want to display everything to potential thieves, don’t make it easy for them to pick a target. Always try to move around pretending that you know exactly where you are, what you are doing and that you are not impressed at all by your surroundings. Carry expensive things like digital cameras in simple plastic bags from local shops. The fancier your bag the more attention you attract. Definitely travel to Mexico, but travel with caution!
